KVM switches to Download Speeds and Memory upgrade Info.

After i bought my PC last year, with fantastic specs which includes very fast quad core processor, Ram to help its speed and a hard drive that stores more than I can throw at it I have been checking out things that could better the system I already have.

1st If your processor is still cutting it with the market and is more than capable of running the software you are using you don’t have to think about searching for a new one. If it isn’t you may want to consider a new board and chipset. Usually however once you begin down this road it is possibly worth just purchasing a new PC as the separates frequently come in at more than a new whole computer.

Second if we take it that your chipset is quick enough, pack in the Ram it gives your processor the room to work at maximum efficiency. Find out which board you have and type the serial number into the search engines and you should be able to pull out what Ram your PC can use (the price of Ram has come down by such a great deal it’s of value investing in it).

Thirdly if you have a large vault of music or imagery that you want to store, manipulate, work with, play then have an individual extra fast drive to allow you to access your files speedily don’t be tricked by big disc sizes which have a rotation and read speed RPM of 5400 not acceptable, 7400 exceptable and 9600 Yeha!. These 1st three are things that will influence your every day experience of computing.

Fourthly If you have an old PC that is good, but no longer cuts the mustard, you don’t need to get rid of it you can use it as an auxiliary system that you work with when you need the information held on that system and let it run applications behind the scenes without effecting your new PC in anyway. The use of a KVM switch is brilliant for this as it allows you to flick between computers using the same Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor to use both systems at the click of a button.

Ensure you get the best Broadband connection you can afford. That doesn’t mean you have to have the large file through put of an Austin Hughes Rack mount Server to need a download rate that wont seem like its frozen when you download pictures, videos or music. Check on the net to find a broadband provider in your localiy, then discover what the maximum download speed your telephone line can actually carry, rather than the one fronted by the provider (it just stops you handing out lots of cash for download speeds you will never achieve) if you can tie in unlimited download volumes to this all the better though most people get hit by the fair use policy if you are downloading large files.

Hopefully this will have helped and I will provide more at a later date.

What to do with wool

February 24, 2009 by · 5 Comments

One of the oldest materials for clothes is wool. Very shortly after our ancestors, the cave men, learned that you can carry half a dead furry animal or tons of fur to keep warm, they invented spinning wool. And what a fantastic material sheep wool is! It has so many characteristics that synthetic fibres do not reach – amazing.

If you are like me and like wool, you most probably will want to work with it. The first thing that comes to ones mind is spinning wool. I found a nice informative page about that on a german blog: Schafwolle spinnen

Next thing is of course dyeing wool yourself. This is something many people don’t dare…although it is pretty easy and can be done in any household with plant and a few chemicals. Have a look over here (sorry, the video is only in german):Wolle färben

Last but not least you will want to knit with your wool, and let’s be honest, although it can be really fun to do all the things like spinning and dyeing yourself, most of the time you will just buy a good ball of wool in a shop.

So here is my recommendation for knitting wool: Gedifra Wolle

This wool has proved to go nicely when knitting and is easy to wash. Now get your knitting needles or your spinning wheel and have some fun with wool!
