The History of Supercars

December 23, 2009 by · 14 Comments

With the invention of the car came the desire for speed. Cars quickly evolved from practical to sporty to satisfy the desires of those that wanted to race.

The first sports cars started to appear at the latter end of the 1940′s. Ferrari, Lotus, Jaguar and Porsche all had sporting road car designs. When you think of today’s supercars you think of sleek design, high speed, high power and even higher price tags and the sports cars of the 1940’s were the first steps towards today’s technological wonders.

Throughout the 1950′s and early 1960′s sports car performance progressed. 1954 saw the arrival of the Meredes 300 SL Gullwing – the first road car to top 150mph. It was capable of a top speed of 165mph and is now considered to be one of the all time classic road cars.

The Gullwing was first shown at the 1954 New York Motor Show and it wowed the public. It has distinctive ‘gull wing’ doors and was made from a lightweight aluminium body. The Gullwing had a 3 litre engine and 240bhp, and in its day was the fastest production car available.

1400 Gullwings were built between 1954 and 1957. The design was superceded by the open Roadster.

It was Ford that created what many people believe to be the first supercar. Their GT40 made its debut at the Nurburgring in 1964 but it wasn’t until 1966 that Ford took their place in American racing history by finishing Le Mans in the top three positions, beating Ferrari. The GT40 has now won more prestigious races than any other road racing car in history.

The Lamborghini Miura made supercar history because it was the first production car to feature a mid-mounted engine (normally only seen on F1 cars). It looked radically different to any road car that had come before. The Miura was unveiled to the world in 1965 at the Turin Auto Show by Ferrucio Lamborghini himself and was named after Spanish fighting bulls due to the aggressive body styling.

In terms of pure speed, after the 150mph title was claimed, 200 mph was the next great speed barrier to try for. The prize for that went to the Ferrari F40 – the last car commissioned by Enzo Ferrari and revealed on Ferrari’s 40th birthday.

The F40 was available between 1987 and 1992. Its top speed was 201mph and it managed 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds.

The F40 is rated by many as the greatest supercar of all.

The price of an F40 reached in excess of half a million pounds during the late 1980′s and even now is holding its price well.

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT (made by Shelby Supercars) is the world’s fastest production car to date with a top speed of 257mph. The Guiness World record run clocked the car in at 255.8mph. The 2009 version can reach speeds of 270mph and is reported to accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds!

Modern technology has allowed the creation of some amazing cars. They have come a long way but are not yet at the peak of design so it remains to be seen what the cars of the future wow us with.

For a chance to get behind the wheel of a Lamborghini today you can do a web search for Lamborghini hire Hertfordhire, Lamborghini hire London or another geographical type search to find a super car hire place near you.

Finding a Trustworthy Auto Repair Shop

October 8, 2009 by · 8 Comments

Keeping their vehicle running is one of the major worries of car owners. Almost everyone gets an uneasy feeling when they take their car in for repairs. Their main concern is whether they will be taken for a ride or be given their money’s worth. So the most important thing after you purchase your car should be to find a good and honest auto repair shop. Finding a good auto repair shop or a good mechanic that you can trust can be difficult.

In Denver, ProAuto Care can totally ease any worries that you may have about servicing your vehicle. With over a decade and a half of experience, ProAuto Care is committed to providing you the best in Denver car repair. Its master technicians offer their expertise in all areas of automobile care from a simple oil change to a detailed brake repair or even a complicated overhaul.

A good auto repair shop should have the experience as well as the equipment required for any problem that arises with your vehicle. A first rate auto repair shop should not only provide you with excellent service but should also use genuine spare parts. They should maintain modern premises and the technicians in the auto repair shop should all be ASE certified.

A good shop can totally ease any worries that you may have. Whether they have been in business for just a few years, or are a family owned enterprise going back a generation or two, they should be able to change your oil, perform a detailed brake repair, or execute a complicated overhaul with equal aplomb. Honesty and trust are the two hallmarks that you should seek in the auto service and repair shop you select.

Some auto repair places are associated with car dealerships. These tend to service only the vehicles which they sell. For instance, a Ford dealership might only repair Ford vehicles. These are okay if one is getting warranty or recall work done but tend to have very high prices. This type of repair center tends to mark up the prices of the parts and does not normally allow customers to privately purchase the item from a less expensive source.

As previously stated, there are places that specialize in certain vehicle types, but there are shops that concentrate on one area of service too. Brake repair places are a good example and can offer repairs for a lot less. The reason being is that they may purchase the materials at a much lower cost since they do so many similar jobs. Some places may even compete with a written estimate from another place to gain people’s trust and business. If you find a good auto repair shop like Pro Auto Care in Denver they are also specialists in Denver brake repair.

Top 5 American Muscle Cars

September 28, 2009 by · 5 Comments

If you want to get a car enthusiast motor running talk to them about good ole American muscle cars! These are the mean street kings from several generations that rattle the windows and hearts of many red blooded Americans. Below you will find five of the top ten muscle cars as rated by Barrett and Jackson.

1. Yenko- When is a Camaro worth nearly $300,000? When it is the lone survivor of only three such cars ever made. The 1969 Yenko Camaro was personally sold by the creator Don Yenko for NHRA drag racing. This car is Daytona yellow, sports a Hurst shifter, and has all the documentation to prove its lineage.

2. Shelby- No sadly it is not Eleanor on the top ten list, but a close relative. The 1966 Shelby GT350 with the original 306-horse power V-8 under the hood has been restored to nearly perfect condition, right down to the original rims and is in the Shelby American World Registry. At $220,000 you will have to dig deep to own this car.

3. Corvette- Would you believe that a car with a scrap title is worth over a quarter of a million dollars? It is when it is the Corvette owned by engineering executive Don Runkle and is the only ZR-1 modified as a convertible. This is a 1989 Chevy Corvette.

4. Cobra- It is not only the older titles that made the top ten list, so did the 2009 Cobra Jet Production Ford Mustang FR500CJ. True to the tradition of the Cobra only 50 of these cars were made for the drag strip. It comes in a three speed automatic or a six-speed manual with a 5.4 Cobra Jet engine. Can you say vroom and $375,000?

5. Ford- In 1955 Ford rolled out their very first Thunderbird, and this rare car has come home to roost in mint condition. This car was restored to original specifications including the original 292 Y block engine. Ford has verified that this is indeed the first 1955 Thunderbird production car, and you could have bought her for $660,000!

Muscle cars are a thing to behold, especially for the automobile buff. The next time you are looking at a dilapidated old muscle car you might want to consider fixing her up, you never know what it might be worth some day if you find one of those extremely rare diamonds in the rough.

Were We Really Just Actually Purchasing A Classic Mustang

July 25, 2009 by · 11 Comments

I really haven’t been able to write on the web site nearly as much as I had expected, on account of the fact that I have been helping my old man with his super nutball midlife crisis. True, you might think it isn’t as far gone as it could possibly be. You see, how he showed up was to get himself dressed up like he was Fonzie or something, and come over to my apartment and tell me, in his jazziest tone of voice: “Get ready, son, we are gonna start scouting for some classic Ford Mustangs. You got it, my boy, I’m totally set to buy one.”

So next my Dad and I went out to a few of those wild vintage car showrooms that I’m always pretty much certain are mob-run, and I am just awed my dad made out a check within just a few minutes, for an alarmingly shiny classic car. It’s an intense item. It sounded amazing as well.

I want to point out that I wrote about that sound in a past tense. It sounded amazing right until it stopped making any noises. The old man informs me that it’s a pretty easy fix and all he needs is the right part. Of course, it may not be as painless to locate classic Ford Mustang parts as it was about a million years ago, but the old man insists that there is a really sizable market for them to this day. It seems like the best place to find parts for 1965 Mustangs is through web auctions, since you can get them all refurbished and sometimes even brand new. Not necessarily cheap, however… Get real, they are half-century old car parts.

I suppose it could’ve been worse. He could have bought himself a toupee.

April 10, 2009 by · 14 Comments

The Ford F-series pickup trucks have been in production since 1948. It has been built as a full size pickup truck. The Chevrolet Silverado, Nissan Titan, Dodge Ram, and Toyota Tundra have been those vehicles which the Ford F-series have considered as competition in the market.

Vehicles should not only be made for the normal road as there are still a lot of places with only off-road terrains. That is the concept of Henry Ford and so he started manufacturing vehicles specifically for off-road use and so his Ford Pickup Trucks were born into this world.

The F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States for 23 years and the bestselling truck for 29 years, so that the F-Series alone makes up half of the Ford Motor Company’s profits in recent years.  It has been said that the Ford pickup truck is the most well known vehicle in the world.

The Ford F-150 has been defined the strongest full-size pickup in the market. This truck features stiff frame and crash-optimized body structure, through-rail welded rear crossmembers, outboard-mounted rear shocks, thick side glass, special sound insulation and highly advanced performance auto parts that can endure the toughest challenge on the road. The Ford F-150 pickup truck is part of the Ford F-Series together with F250, F350 F450 and F550. The Ford F-150 pickup truck brags exceptional handling, ride, and quietness. It is offered in five unique series which includes the entry level F-150 XL, the fun and athletic F-150 STX, the all-purpose F-150 XLT, the powerful F-150 FX4, and the luxurious F-150 Lariat.

These Pickup Trucks should always be kept in their proper condition and only by regularly checking the Ford Pickup Parts could owners ensure their longevity. The Ford Pickup Parts are made for heavy duty performance because of the obvious use for off-road terrains. Thus, these parts undergo through a lot of stress.

Vehicles such as the Ford F-150 are usually driven off-road and are used to haul or carry large and heavy cargoes so Ford Parts used in this vehicle are made of the highest standards; however, they still need to be maintained in order to prolong their life and excellent service.

Just like all other vehicles out in the market, Ford pickup needs to be maintained regularly to avoid fast wearing out of its auto parts. Ford F-150 truck needs special care and attention, especially its exterior auto parts, which are more exposed to harsh elements. In case you may need a replacement auto parts such as the Ford F150 Pickup Hood.

The Ford F-150 is the most awarded truck. It received various awards from different award giving bodies. In the latest years Ford had responded to marketplace changes by setting a new variable gross vehicle weight rating strategy across all of its Super Duty F- Series pickup trucks to better accommodate the way most customers use their trucks.
