Importance of Cellular Health and Complementary Medicine

February 2, 2010 by · 12 Comments

Cellular health is all about preventative and restorative health care. The human body is made up of 60 trillion cells. Each cell has a specific role in how the body functions. Each cell works very hard and performs an incredible amount of tasks. It is the harmonious collaboration or balance of all our cells that make the human body to work in an optimal way.

When the cell is not in balance, the cell goes into a state of oxidative stress. Disease results when cell function does not work properly. Dysfunction in one cell eventually spreads to others and our whole system is out of balance. Restoring cell balance in some cells directly affects our overall health and well-being.

In the current, conventional model of health care, treatments focus largely on alleviating symtpoms. While this is often very helpful, it is often not adequate to eradicate disease and restore a state of health. This is evidenced by the skyrocketing rates of chronic health ailments like diabetes, cancer, heart disease and many others illnesses.

In short, eliminating disease is not enough to restore a person’s state of health. To date, the primary source of information regarding promotion of cellular health has been the field of Complementary/Alternative Medicine. Yet, why aren’t complementary and alternative medicine modalities discussed in our conventional doctor’s visit?

While alternative medicine is enormously popular, most strategies and cell health supplements are not scientifically researched. And without such research, it is very difficult for complementary and alternative medicine to gain widespread acceptance in mainstream medicine. This lack of research is largely attributable to lack of funding. A great deal of medical research is sponsored by large companies that manufactur pharmaceuticals and therapeutic medical devices. This is not a criticism of this research; but in terms of long term health, it is simply not enough.

Public sentiment, as far as acceptance of complementary and alternative medicine is concerned, remains steady and strong. And sentiment in conventional health care as far as acceptance of alternaive medicine is concened,  is definitely increasing. What can we do to promote more quality research and education in complementary and alternative medicine and in particular the field of preventative medicine?

Raising public awareness is a must. With all that is published in the field of Complementary/Alternative Medicine, there is still a scarcity of scientific research validating, not only its effectiveness, but more specifically, which populations would be most amenable to which products. These are worthwhile discussions we can have with our conventional health care doctors and our natural health providers.

One company that is providing scientific results in the area of cellular health and the ability of our cells to fight free radicals and oxidative stress, is ASEA. Reactive molecules in our bodies are basic and fundamental to the immune system and healing process and are needed to turn on the antioxidants that protect us from free radicals and aging. ASEA is the first and only stable, perfectly balanced mixture of these reactive molecules that exists outside the body and can be used to help maintain proper balance inside the body to support the immune system and healing process.

It is amazing how many people that are treated for various health conditions are, as of yet, unaware of the potential benefits of combining their treatments with Complementary/Alternative Medicine. Likewise, most conventional doctors have received minimal training in Complementary/Alternative health; many doctors begin their own personal study after consulting with their patients.

Awareness promotes positive action. From creative questions will arise meaningful solutions. This dialogue needs to come from each of us. Health, and our state of health, affects us all.

Can Limu help Diabetes?

January 12, 2010 by · 8 Comments

Here is an eye opening statistic: 26 Million people have type 2 diabetes, Over 6 million of them are undiagnosed – Source: national Diabetes Statistics of the National Diabetes Clearing house

So what is Diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes occurs when your body either does not create enough insulin, or, it ignores the insulin that it is producing. What is Insulin? Insulin is a hormone that takes sugar (glucose) from the body and takes it to the body’s cells, where usually it would convert food into energy. If your body doesn’t have the correct manufacture of insulin, too much sugar remains in the blood stream, leaving body famished of energy. If you have excessive sugar in the bloodstream it can lead to harm to nerves, kidneys and even the heart can be put at risk.
In addition to increasing your risk of heart disease, one of the most disquieting facts about diabetes is that it can produce or worsen many life threatening conditions. Many of these diseases can benefit from limu’s nutrients and its multifaceted carbohydrate polysaccharide, fucoidan.

How can Limu affect Diabetes?

Limu contains the complex carbohydrate polysaccharide and anti-oxidant rich Fucoidan. Fucoidan promotes curing of the harm caused by diabetes by helping toward balancing blood sugar, lowering blood lipids, speeding wound healing and preventing future damage. So Fucoidan helps frankly with:

Balancing Blood Sugar Levels
Eliminating highs and lows in blood glucose levels helps prevent damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves and the heart. Limu’s polysacharride from Fucoidan help stabilize blood glucose levels by slowing the incorporation of glucose from the intestines into the blood stream.

Prevents Insulin Over-Response
Similarly, fucoidan also keeps insulin levels in equilibrium. When too much insulin is released, hunger is enthused and can add to weight gain.

Improves healing
Slow wound healing plagues a lot of diabetics. Fucoidan stimulates hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), which boosts tissue healing.

High Cholesterol
Limu’s fucoidan alters the action of liver enzymes that control the way fatty acids are metabolized, resulting in a lower LDL cholesterol levels in the blood. LDL cholesterol build up (plaque) on arterial walls is a principal cause of heart attack and stroke. Scientists in 5 separate studies report that fucoidan is influential in preventing hardening of the arteries – a major supplier to heart disease.

High Blood Pressure
The result Limu has on the above conditions also helps reduce the risk of stroke by alleviating hypertension (high blood pressure). Limu is able to recover blood pressure by lowering lipid levels.

Boosts the immune system
Fucoidan’s chemical composition contains identical antibodies and nutrient as human breast milk, which help bolster the immune system. Fucoidan stimulates production of fundamental immune cells, helping the body better cope against viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi and even cancer cells.

Why use Limu?

For over 3000 years the natives of the south pacific island of Tonga have known about the astounding benefits of Limu Moui – a brown seaweed that grows beneath the clear waters surrounding the islands. In these untainted, pristine waters, Limu is able to absorb trace minerals and vital nutrients found there in a readily-available form.

Studies prove Impact on Health
More than 650 independent studies, unsolicited, 3rd party studies have identified the compound that sets Limu apart from other natural sources is fucoidan. These studies have come from all around the globe. Visit www.pubmed.org to see how well researched fucoidan is.

Live better with Limu Plus!

Limu Plus is a Limu moui tonic which has helped many people with health conditions and stress related illness. View some testimonials of real people receiving real health benefits.

Limu drink has helps not just with Diabetes, as the health benefits can also be seen with Cancer, Arthritis and Joint Inflammation, Heart Disease and general wellness.

It’s suitable for Men, Women, Children and even Pets who wish to enjoy a better life.

The Various Stages of Mesothelioma

December 3, 2009 by · 9 Comments

Mesothelioma is a sort of lung cancer that’s caused solely by exposure to asbestos.  Doctors typically divide the progression of cancer into 4 stages based mostly on how far the carcinoma has spread.  The 4 mesothelioma stages are as follows :

Stage I
In Stage I, the mesothelioma is confined to the side of the body.  At this time, it is typically limited to the pleura.  The two pleura form a membrane that surrounds the lung, and are divided by a layer of lubricating liquid.  Mesothelioma in the pleura causes them to make more of this fluid than they want.

On rare occasions, Stage I mesothelioma may involve the lung itself, the pericardium ( the membrane that surrounds the heart ), or the diaphragm ( the muscle that separates the stomach from the chest ).

Stage II
In stage II, the mesothelioma has spread.  It now involves the chest wall, the esophagus ( which connects the mouth to the stomach ), or the heart.  It may affect the pleura on both sides of the body.  It may also have an effect on the chest’s lymph nodes ( part of the immune system that works to clear out foreign particles ).

Stage III
In stage III, the mesothelioma has spread further.  It is now outside the diaphragm and in the peritoneum ( the surface that surrounds the intestinal hole ).  It might also affect lymph nodes outside of the chest.

Stage IV
In the last of the mesothelioma stages, the tumor has gone through metastasis, that is, it has gone thru the blood vessels to spread to the organs far away from the chest and stomach.

Symptoms caused by mesothelioma rely on where it has spread to.  If it is limited to a lung ( as is typical of early mesothelioma stages ), it may cause dry coughing and loss of breath.  If it has spread to the peritoneum, it can cause fever, swelling, and bowel or urinary issues.  In the final stages, it can cause trouble swallowing, sudden weight reduction, or puking blood.swallowing, sudden weight loss, or vomiting blood.

Want To Be Safe Go For Critical Illness Insurance

November 10, 2009 by · 10 Comments

Summary:
When you’re ill, what you require is the health care and attention which everyone’s entitled to. If you’re severely sick you want the promise that you’ll be offered the very best treatment, regardless of cost. You need to know that this is what you would be entitled to

serious illness cover has improved dramatically. There are loads of new products on the sale – some certainly giving very restricted, but vital, insurance at very realistic costs. Maybe they should be titled Rest Assured Insurance.

From uncomplicated insurance policies  for example cash policies, where a modest amount of money is paid out when you need physiotherapy or a visit to the dentist or something similar , all the way through to all out fully comprehensive health insurance plans, there is there is a huge variety, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one to suit.

Seeing as the government determined that it was acceptable for the patient to pay for indispensable pricey drugs for critical illnesses, such as cancer, without wavering the right to NHS treatment for the patient, an uncomplicated insurance plan to provide basic National Health Service (NHS)  expenses that happen from time to time has come into play. In addition to this, you can “affix” up to 5 options for extra cover – one of the extras is for cancer drugs. If the National Health Service rejected any cancer drugs at any time on expense grounds, then the insurance policy would find the money.

If you can meet the expense of a £1,000 yearly or even more,  in that case there’s the private health area to think about.  Although that amount may look as if it is outlandish, when you bear in mind that, you’d have to pay over £150 to see a doctor privately and the price of the most routine procedure would astonish you, in truth it’s logical. Medical treatment when and where you want it and entrée to facilities and consultants without waiting in a queue are the rewards of this process.

If private care attracts you, but you would like to keep the price as low as possible, there are plenty of things you could do about it. By assenting to an excess on the insurance policy, then the lower-cost treatments and specialists which may come below the excess amount, are funded by you. Leaving the expensive, more serious illnesses covered by the insurance company. In the same way you may consent to paying a percentage of all claims. You could save an appreciable amount if you take either of these options, whilst still being able to have the peace of mind that knowing that it is a virtually “skies the limit” situation if you should become critically ill.

There’s a company providing an absolutely new found scheme in medical care. It sounds a bit complicated but it’s not really – and it looks to be a good idea. You are given the pick of opting to pay up to half of any claim that you put in. 11% is the bottom rate. On the example offered, a forty one year old non-smoker would would need to pay just below 101 pounds per month for fully comprehensive cover. Paying 10 per cent of the claim would take this down by £17, whilst paying half would mean a cost of about 44 pounds.
life insurance cover , concisely, supplies a one off lump sum should a serious condition be confirmed. This is generally between 110,000 pounds and £240,000 It might seem a lot of money remember the really high cost of health care that can be involved. Not all insurers cover all forms of cancer, for instance, so read the clauses very thoroughly and be sure you are familiar with any limitations and exclusions.

Pre-existing illnesses won’t be covered by any critical illness policies and you must be entirely straightforward and truthful when giving information about your medical record. If a claim is filed, the 1st thing the insurance company will do is to write to your doctor re your records and if the insurance company find there’s something you’ve not revealed, even if it’s not linked to your current illness, it is extremely likely they will decline your claim.

Fine Points About Critical Illness Insurance

September 30, 2009 by · 14 Comments

Summary
An information document studying cheap life insurance , what the insurance will cover and what it won’t and the affiliated facts. This article supplies the whats and wherefores

incorporate life insurance and critical illness cover , paying out whichever happens first; Death or critical illness

If you are found to have a grave condition, then a critical illness insurance policy will settle a claim with a tax-free lump sum.

Critical illness insurance policies do not cover these conditions

Illnesses are only covered if they are precisely within the policies definition. If a condition is classed as insufficiently severe, such as some types of cancer, it will not be covered.

Equally, subsequent to once reaching a certain age, some policies do not cover selected sicknesses. For instance many insurers will not cover Alzheimer’s if diagnosed after the age of sixty.

In addition, a lot of insurances don’t provide cover for:

HIV- and Aids-related illnesses – unless caught from a blood transfusion, through physical assault or at work in the emergency services, medical profession or armed forces.

Flying – anything other than normal passenger flights; Participating in dangerous sports and pastimes; Drug abuse or alcohol; Self inflicted injuries

Not following medical advice

Illnesses covered by critical illness insurance
To be labeled critical illness a insurance policy is obliged to follow a set procedure and offer several of the conditions listed below.

Acutely advanced cancer cases; Heart attacks – if they are sufficiently serious; Strokes – making symptoms permanent. On the other hand, many policies provide cover for more than these 3. Kidney failure, major organ transplants, multiple sclerosis and bypass surgery are generally covered in basic plans.

Incuable blindess and deafness and permanent paralysis, that stops you working, are covered in comprehensive plans. Some insurances cover against loss of a limb.

War, rioting or civil commotion; The majority insurance covers settle a claim over and above a “survival period” of typically 26 days, not on on confirmation of illness. If you pass away within twenty eight days of meeting the policies conditions, no payment will be made.

Critical illness insurance – where to buy it
An independent financial adviser or broker can guide you on aquiring critical illness insurance cover as policies alter so much. They will be able to advise you which policy is best suited to your circumstances.

They will also advise how much cover and for how long you need it and if life cover and criticial illness combined would be a better buy.

No policy would pay out a claim if you previously had a life-threatening illness when you purchased the insurance policy. It may be the same if you had prior to purchasing the policy visited your GP regarding a problem that turned out to be critical critical.

When applying for insurance it is essential that you answer all questions correctly.facts that are not revealed could result in pay outsbeen refused.

Monthly Premiums
Monthly premiums vary depending on a few factors, for instancethe amount you want the policy to pay out, if you smoke, age and the policy chosen.

Making a claim
Make sure you follow the cheapest life insurance regulations, if you place a claim. The policy, for instance, may want a diagnosis from a United Kingdom specialist who specialises in medicine associated with your sickness. A GPs verdict might not be sufficient.

Your pay out will be invalidated if your condition does not meet any of the definitions catalogued in your plan .

Alternatives
Income protection insurance policy is perhaps a better choice for some people. If, as a result of an accident or illness (not specifically critical) you cannot work then you would be entitled to a tax-free income.

What Are Hemorrhoids?

September 30, 2009 by · 12 Comments

This is very sensitive area of your body. Too private. Nobody likes when something is wrong over there. However it happens. Hemorrhoids occur practically in everyone. Though hemorrhoids cause problems in 1 out of 25 people. Mostly those are people between 45 and 65 years of age. You find a blood on toilet tissue. Bright red blood. Ok, now what? You do not know why you bleed. It could be rectal cancer by the way. It could be hemorrhoids. So? What are the hemorrhoids?

They look like cushions. They contain blood vessels, some muscle and elastic fibers. People often call them piles.

Hemorrhoids can be treated through an effective system called H Miracle System

Not everything over there is a hemorrhoid. There could be other problems. Fissure, abscess, fistula, pruritus (itching), condylomata (sort of hanging skin caused by viral infection), viral and bacterial skin infections can happen in that, so sensitive area.

How would a scenario of hemorrhoids look? A 46-year-old female presents with complaints on rectal discomfort, occasional bright red blood on toilet tissue and prolapsing tissue in of anal area. This is probably internal hemorrhoid. Another scenario brings a patient who complains on severe rectal pain and prolapsed tissue. The severe pain happens in external hemorrhoids. The pain follows thrombosis (thrombosis is the blood clot in your blood vessels).

There are four degrees of internal hemorrhoids. It may be interesting for you to know because first, second and sometime third degree can be treated by banding only. Fourth degree and sometime third degree requires surgery. Do not forget non-hemorrhoid  causes of symptoms. To check with your doctor is worthwhile because there could be other problems, including cancer or anal fissure. (By the way for anal fissure medical treatment alone may heal it in 90% of cases).

H Miracle is a good option that can be tried to deal with hemorrhoids. You can watch a video on H Miracle.

The Atkins Diet

September 29, 2009 by · 5 Comments

Today there are many diets out there to choose from, and if you want to lose weight, it can be a bit difficult to figure out which diet is for you. However, one of the top diet choices out there today is the Atkins Diet. Of course before you start any diet you probably want to know a bit more about it and how it works. So, let’s take a look at how the Atkins Diet got started, how it works, who it works best for, and more so you can make the right choice.

Overview of the Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is a popular diet that was developed by Dr. Atkins. The entire diet is based on the theory of this doctor is that the main problem for people who are overweight is that they eat too many carbohydrates and their body is extra sensitive to them. His idea is that the body and how it processes the carbs you take in each day is what makes you gain more weight. Basically Dr. Atkins feels that many people eat too many carbohydrates, which leads to insulin resistance. In order to remedy this problem, the diet is one that restricts the intake of carbs and focuses on eating a diet that is high in protein. You end up reducing the amount of carbs that you eat each day to make your body start burning off the fat on the body as its fuel.

People the Diet Works Best For

While this diet has been shown to be effective for many people, it seems to work the best for people who really do have an insulin resistance build up in their body. Also, people who are hypoglycemic can really benefit from this diet as well if they are trying to lose weight.

Pros and Cons

You will find that just like any other diet, there are definitely both pros and cons. Let’s take a look at a few of the pros and cons you’ll find if you try this diet.

- Pro #1 – It’s a Simple Diet – One of the main pros that so many people love is that it is a very simple diet to follow. Once you learn what foods you are supposed to be eating, those you should avoid, and learn to count carbs, it really is a diet that is easy to follow.

- Pro #2 – Finding Your Own Level of Carbs – Another great pro is that the diet does focus on finding the level of carbs that works best for you. Some people may be able to eat a bit more than others, but the focus is to figure out what works for you.

- Pro #3 – A Popular Diet – The Atkins Diet is a popular diet as well. This is a pro because it means that you can easily find information on the diet and support as you are trying to follow it as well.

- Con #1 – You Miss Out on Cancer Fighting Fruits and Vegetables – One of the main cons of this diet is that because of the big restriction on carbs, you actually miss out on some of the most important cancer fighting fruits and vegetables that you need. Add to this that you’re eating more red meat, which too much of can cause cancer, and you may create a dangerous situation.

- Con #2 – You Always Have to Count Carbs – Many people don’t like the fact that they are always having to keep track of the carbs they eat. This means that every single thing that goes in their mouth must be counted, which can get old after awhile.

- Con #3 – Miss Out on Necessary Nutrients – Probably one of big cons to this diet is the fact that you miss out on many necessary nutrients that your body needs, since you cannot eat many foods. While some minerals and vitamins can be taken in a supplement, some of the important phytonutrients that you need cannot be replaced by taking a supplement.

Foods You Can and Can’t Eat

There are several different phases of the Atkins diet and each phase affects the food that you can and cannot eat as well. When you are going through the first two weeks of the Atkins plan, you are only allowed to have 20 grams of carbs each day, and the carbs that you can eat include vegetables that are low in carbohydrates, such as tomatoes, lettuce, and broccoli. During this time you can’t even eat fruits, potatoes, breads, or yogurt, since they have too many carbs. You can’t take in caffeine or alcohol during this time either.

As you go into the second stage of this diet you are allowed to go up to 25 grams of carbs each day. After you get to the weight you want to be, then you can slowly introduce some good carbs into your diet once again, but you have to make sure that you don’t gain back the weight that you have lost. Some of the things that you can add to your diet include plenty of proteins, such as various meats, like red meat, bacon, and you can even add eggs.

The Opinion of the Medical Community

So, you may be wondering what the opinion of the medical community happens to be. Well, the medical community often criticizes this diet, feeling that there are many dangers to going on a diet that is so low on carbs and so high on protein. Since you cannot eat many fruits and vegetables, doctors fear that people don’t get the nutrients that their body really needs to be healthy. Also, all the fat that is taken in on this diet can be very dangerous. The American Heart Association definitely is concerned with the diet because of the high fat, and the American Dietetic Association is also concerned about it because of the lack of nutrition the diet offers.

Evidence Mounting Against Tanning Beds

September 19, 2009 by · 7 Comments

It would seem that the days of widespread use of tanning beds might soon be over with the recent announcement of the World Health Organization’s cancer research department that such devices can cause cancer. With this declaration, tanning beds have essentially been catapulted to the category of substances and factors that are known cancer risks. While there is still a flourishing trade in new and used tanning beds, the reclassification of such devices from being “likely” to cause cancer to “can definitely” cause cancer warrants some serious rethinking. The reason for all this fuss is that the statistical evidence that tanning beds can cause cancer can no longer be denied.

While all these developments are reason enough to be concerned for everyone who uses and continues to use tanning beds, it is young female adults in particular who should pay attention. Whether through a commercial tanning salon or their own home tanning beds, this demographic has registered an alarming increase in the number of skin cancer cases over the past few years.

Strangely enough, a lot of people still view tanning as a healthy pursuit, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that such activities cause serious damage to the skin. The question that this now brings up is why tanning beds pose such a health risk.

Scientists have known for a while that ultraviolet radiation of the A, B, and C varieties–that is UVA, UVB, and UVC, respectively–can cause lab animals to develop skin cancer. This evidence flies in the face of certain manufacturer’s claims that some models of home tanning beds are safe to use because they emit mostly UVA radiation and not the “bad” UVB. This is either misinformation or downright deception on their part, since UVA is just as dangerous as the other forms of ultraviolet radiation. Simply put, using either new or used tanning beds puts you at risk for skin cancer just as regular overexposure to the sun.

In people up to 30 years old, there has been a huge increase in the number of skin cancer cases, which is undoubtedly due to the popularity of new and used tanning beds. The increase in the number of melanoma cases in young women is even more alarming, with almost 3 times as many from this group getting skin cancer from the early 70s to 2004.

As if this isn’t bad enough, thicker and more potentially fatal melanoma lesions characterize many of today’s skin cancer cases. And scientists are beginning to turn their attention to the widespread use of home tanning beds as the likely culprit.

While a few experts remain hesitant to directly blame the use of tanning beds as the primary cause in the increase in skin cancer cases, the proof is almost irrefutable. While the decision as to whether or not to keep going to tanning salons or buying used tanning beds remain the user’s, it would appear that the use of these devices may be coming to an end.

Lowering The Risks of Ovarian Cancer and Cancers in General

August 20, 2009 by · 10 Comments

Women concerned about ovarian cancer because of family history, or because of their own medical condition maybe relieved to learn that there are factors that may lower the risk for ovarian cancer. Here are some of those factors:

Use of oral contraception (birth control pills) for 3 years or more may reduce your risk for ovarian cancer by 30% – 50%.

Women who have had tubal ligation may substantially reduce their risk for ovarian cancer.

Women who have had a hysterectomy have a reduced risk for ovarian cancer.

Prophylactic oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries) has been used by women at high risk for ovarian cancer as a means of reducing that risk by 95%.

Another way to reduce your risk for ovarian cancer or any cancer is to live as healthy a lifestyle as you possibly can.

Additionally here are things that anyone can do that will help lower the risk of having any cancer, in general.

Reduce your stress level, exercise moderately and eat a healthy diet.

Consume smaller meals more frequently – such as six smaller meals instead of trying to consume 3 larger meals.

If you are already fighting a cancer in your body…

Eat protein-rich foods that help build and repair body tissue. Protein-rich foods include: cottage cheese, eggs, fish, peanut butter, poultry and yogurt.

To encourage people to eat when they do not feel like eating, make the atmosphere pleasant with music, flowers or eye-appealing dishware. Use jam, honey or butter on bread and nuts when to add calories and nutrition to otherwise bland dishes.

Moderate exercise keeps your muscles from deteriorating and helps to your body to eliminate cancer causing toxins. Starting walking more, join a gym or take up a sport.
