Jump On The Train to San Diego For A Leisurely Family Vacation
October 31, 2009 by Tucker
If you have not traveled by Amtrak for a vacation, perhaps it is time to to give it some consideration. Many North American destination cities are easily accessible by train. Given how beautiful and interesting our country is, the trip itself can be a big part of the total enjoyment.
Of all the many great vacation destinations accessible by train, San Diego must be near the top of the list. It is easy to take a train to the historic station and then use public transit for getting around locally. Compared to other parts of Southern California, San Diego is actually relatively close together. In fact, a lot of the attractions can be enjoyed by walking.
There is no shortage of fun places of interest in San Diego. Visiting all of the beaches, museums, historical attractions and other amusements could truly take weeks. There certainly would be no problem filling a busy week of vacation in this beach-oriented city. One of the major features that San Diego offers its guests and residents alike is its wonderful, moderate weather, especially in the summertime.
Continuing your train travel up the West Coast past Los Angeles would be an option if you would like to plan an even more substantial trip. AmTrak runs from the downtown San Diego station to downtown Los Angeles Union Station with a few stops in between. By doing any of the above, it would be reasonable to engage in a one- or two-week vacation without using a car.
Don’t forget that a trip by train can add several days on to the total schedule compared to flying, but if you have the right mindset the traveling can be part of the overall enjoyment of the trip.

dipping on the San Diego Freeway 90mph….I need my gas mask and my kitchen now
Production crew and set up here at Union Station in Los Angeles
lady pinks sucks haha global warming haha trying to sound all educated and gangsta at the same time!! na “mexicanita” hit the books!!
After arriving at your destination immediately start complaining that its not like home.
it’s like Grand Central Station some days
Actually, it's like Grand Central Terminal. Grand Central is a “terminal” rather than a “station” because all trains begin or end their journeys there. Not that this usage is consistent; Los Angeles Union Station is also a terminal by this definition yet uses the word “station.”
I made it!!! St. Louis to Los Angeles! Union Station w/ 5 others)
“Are the oddsmakers showing their West Coast bias? Seeing as USC finished 2007 on top of LVSC's rankings and are starting there this year, is it possible the Trojans are getting a little too much respect thanks to Sin City close proximity to Los Angeles?”That quote shows YOUR bias against the west coast. Would you be questioning the #1 spot if it were an SEC or east coast team in there? All USC has done is prove themselves time and time again against opposition, especially OOC opposition.I'm not even an 'SC fan either.
Hey Sci Fi Fan (me, too BTW!), how many violations have you gotten this week? It's ridiculous to receive a violation when you are NOT in fact belligerent, far left wing and you actually post facts. But to answer you question so I don't get another VIO, I will look it up. Thanks.
PS And I have Never posted the F-word like someone on here did. I have a higher vocabulary.
In a lawsuit that could change ground rules on California budget writing, 10 Southern California cities and their redevelopment agencies are challenging methods used by state lawmakers in the budget process.
Hey You guys are awesome! My favorite San Diego station! Can you guys please play “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer?
