For days the media have screamed about the “Hellstorm Dean,” the “Killer Hurricane” bearing down on Jamaica, and sure to wreack havoc and mass death, film at 11 (actually, film continuously).

This morning, they were visibly disappointed that thousands hadn't died on Jamaica, but they were still holding out hope that there would be massive destruction in Belize or Mexico.

Of course, politicians love hurricanes too. In Jamaica they were busy suspending elections, declaring states of emergency, and warning against free-market prices.

    The petition
STOP The Bauxite (Aluminum ore) Mining in Jamaica Now.
    Island Jamaica Green Movement
(THE I.J.G.M) was created with the intention to reflect our true Jamaican values & pride. Our prime objective is to take action, by promoting a cleaner and greener (JM) environment.

The Aluminum Mining industry in Jamaica is an incredible danger to the environment and the people.

The pollution from the mining industry effects the air the water, and it also soaks into the soil making the entire area impossible for any life.
Jamaica also has one of the highest percentage of plant species in danger of extinction in the world.
Environmental concerns in this ecoregion are characteristic of other populated Caribbean islands. These include deforestation, soil erosion, population pressures, and lack of public awareness concerning conservation. But Bauxite (aluminum ore) mining is a Majer problem for Jamaica, it is still having a massively dangerous and negative impact on the island’s forests, and ecosystem.

The Bauxite Mining industry in Jamaica is profitable to foreign investors, But dangerous for Jamaica.
The objectives of the “KEEP JAMAICA GREEN & The I.J.G.M project” are:

    · To get 300.000 signings for this petition.

    · To Hand this petition over to the Jamaican Govt,

    · To raise public awareness about the importance concerning the conservation of our ecosystem in Jamaica.
This is in order to ensure that our exceptional Jamaican environment is preserved.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION. SIGN IT IF YOU ARE A JAMAICAN. SIGN IT IF YOU ARE A TOURIST. SIGN IT SIMPLY IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR ENVIRONMENT.
