Anyway, what I really meant was that just taking care of your own (normal) teeth is a pain. Ideally one should brush after every meal, floss once a day... it's all such a hassle. Surely modern technology can come up with a more durable solution?

Hmmm…. no two-year-olds here, but I but there's no one there with braces. I have a lot of attraction to plants that eek out an existence in the harsh environment that the ocotillo lives in (its native to the desert).
In the spring -- after the rains -- the plant buds out and gets topped by a little red flower -- from a distance they look like crazy candles. As the year wears on, the flowers go (and so do most of the leaves) -- but they keep toughing it out.

Ahh Grandma-P — I think that's the whole thing. The first stanza's rhythm is analogous to that of the wind... and this literary decision forces the reader slow down and feel the harsh environment.
I agree with Emma- your description that 'especially' before children infers that even the presence of children cannot create an environment that is vital and energetic. I also begs the question "Why are the children (compared to the adults) especially targeted by the force of the wind?"
I have always enjoyed your poems, Gino, as they are ugly and beautiful at the same time. As John Keats reminds us in "Ode to A Grecian Urn," beauty is truth, and truth beauty... that is all we know on Earth, and all we need to know.

Gino:<br
