Or, if you like Park City, check out "Utah Ski Packages"--there's a wide range of prices and it includes car rental. I just don't know about flying from Oahu to LA to Utah, and what that would cost. Hope your syracuse mission goes as planned - I'm already playing with hot tubs up on Killington, getting them ready for the winter season. You Fenway tin is really nice! Don't know what your son's gonna do for lodging on the Big Island, but if he likes to camp and has a penchant for the Ka'u District, there's this very-recently cleared area in Ocean View that he's welcome to use!
