I also had post operative abdominal gas and sulky bowel symptons which I wasn't prepared for. The car ride home from hospital was torture - every tiny bump in the road was agony due to the pressure from inside my distended abdomen. Once the gas got moving I felt so much more comfortable. I stuck to regular paracetamol for pain relief, as I was very anxious about becoming constipated if I resorted to the co-codamol. For the first few days I drank plenty of water and prune juice to keep things moving!
I was advised to take 2-3 weeks off work with no driving -which I've stuck to. Stitches dissolved around 10-12 days and the last bruising around the central incision has all but disappeared. However, I felt so well this week that I did a little bit of physical work yesterday (painting a cupboard) and even though I didn't feel as if I was pushing myself too far I do feel tender over my abdomen today - so I know everything's not completely back to normal yet and I still need to take it easy! Even though the operation was explained in some detail, I still can't quite envisage how much cutting, pulling, stretching and stitching went on inside and therefore can't guage how much mending has to happen.
I was advised not to play golf for 6 weeks - which seems like a long time to me - anyone else got experience of this?
Hope you continue to make a good recovery - keep positive.

I'm 54yrs old and 2 1/2 weeks post op (laparoscopy – 80mm dermoid cyst, both ovaries & tubes – luckily no malignancy) and feeling well enough to be getting bored and impatient about returning to work. The problem is that so many people get into the habit of eating their foods in specific combinations that they've been using for their entire lives that they can't seem to break out of those habits even when the solution to their digestive problems is easily within their reach. It has been proven over and over that certain types of foods don't digest well when mixed with other types of foods because it causes a hostile environment in the gut that often ends up releasing certain toxins into the digestive system. When these toxins are absorbed they cause the breakdown or lysis of different tissues over time. This tissue breakdown results in the various digestive conditions that you hear so much about and that cause so much pain and misery. Some of these conditions include diverticulitis, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, chronic constipation and diarrhea, not to mention ordinary old indigestion. If people would learn to eat the appropriate food combinations, it would mean that their digestive conditions could improve significantly and they could enjoy life again instead of suffering through the digestive symptoms and taking all those pills, powders and often falsely touted "special foods." It's not difficult, it's just a matter of learning the right food combinations and using them. Life will get better if people can just do this.

The method of using certain food combinations in order to control digestive problems has been around for a long time.
