I agree with you every bit.
I got an electric shaver and was disappointed until I gave up.
However, I now use it for the first-level shave (ie., ~0.2mm of hair remains) and then use gel + regular gillette mach3 for a closer shave if need be. I typically do this only once a week (full close shave look) and use the electric shaver about 3 times a week (stubble look). I console myself in the fact that I buy lesser regular mach3 blades every month (cut down usage by 60%).
That said, electric shavers are great for trimming + hair shaping (if you have some facial hair like mine).]]>
