A Close Shave
May 30, 2009 by
Scraping a metal blade is one of those activities that men endure, rather than look forward to. For at least hundreds of years a metal blade scraped across the face has been the way it was done.
Things have moved on since then, of course, and these days you can find new types of electric shavers that are very smooth. When you have less irritation on your skin, you actually help your skin maintain its youth. You look better too.
And for most of us, there’s something pleasant about the feeling of a really close shave, after you’ve shaved. While shaving itself may not be fun, the post-shave feeling is generally a pleasant thing. Unfortunately, traditionally electric shavers have not given as good a shave as the old-fashioned ‘wet shave’.
There are various ranges of electric shavers now, like the Philips RQ1051 Arcitec Rotary Shaver, which has an ergonomic and slim body. With a system known as it provides a perfectly close shave, even on the neck area. Traditionally, as most men will know, that’s one of the harder areas to shave properly.
It also has stainless steel blades to lift the hair to shave. The benefit of a system like that is that you end up shaving below skin level – talk about a close shave!
Of course the RQ1051 isn’t the only electric shaver that offers a close shave. For example the HS8060 offers shaving with a built-in moisturising system. There is an almost bewildering array on offer in every department store.
In most cases it pays to research as much as you can on the web before making a decision, because you’re not usually allowed to try them out and return them. For hygiene reasons that’s a very good thing. After all, would you want the one that somebody else had returned the day before?

Braun Electric Shaver: The Closest Shave Possible Minus the Sting
Nothing you mentioned will "catch fire" at that low a temp (do keep everything away from the coils or sides of an oven though since that will create a much higher temp than the air-temp).
You can bake any material you want inside polymer clay or touching it without problems that won't *itself* distort, melt, etc., at the low temp needed for curing polymer clay… in other words, wood, metal, glass, ceramic, terracotta, natural materials like twigs and cotton, etc are all fine (and in fact, paper and wood don't burn till the famous temperature of 451 F).
About the only material you have to be concerned about when doing that is plastic, and some types of plastic will distort or even melt at temps between 200 and 300 F… so I'm not sure what would happen to the foam part of the foam core board. You'd probably better try it to see.
If you want to read more about baking polymer clay and which materials it can be baked with, you can check out these two pages at my site for lots of info:
(You could also make the blade itself from polymer clay, and just do one of the things to it that makes it look like metal… check this page for more on that:
….click on the METAL category there
Or I guess you could just wrap something-or-other with aluminum foil, etc.)

I agree with you every bit.
I got an electric shaver and was disappointed until I gave up.
However, I now use it for the first-level shave (ie., ~0.2mm of hair remains) and then use gel + regular gillette mach3 for a closer shave if need be. I typically do this only once a week (full close shave look) and use the electric shaver about 3 times a week (stubble look). I console myself in the fact that I buy lesser regular mach3 blades every month (cut down usage by 60%).
That said, electric shavers are great for trimming + hair shaping (if you have some facial hair like mine).]]>
